“The path to paradise begins in hell.” – Dante Alighieri
“Hell is empty and all of the devils are here.” – William Shakespeare
#HELLbent is my first studio exhibition.
In it, I wanted to create a version of purgatory where everything is lemon scented and candy coated.
This collection of images is centered around themes of impulse, consumerism, excess, childhood, addiction, identity, heartbreak, and marketing.
It is my desire that each photograph convey a clear idea or message, and that as you view each subsequent piece, a narrative arc is revealed.
I also wished to create an experience that would change based on context and reward multiple viewings.
In this selection I wanted to present:
- Religious concepts in an amoral way without theological pretext.
- Our symbiotic relationship with stimulus and its cause and effect.
- Hell, as a place we choose to exist, surrounding ourselves with creature comforts and decorated pain.
This project has been an intense labor of love. I hope you enjoy the work as much as I have enjoyed creating it.
Thank you for following and supporting me on my journey.
